Ukraine is the first country to form combat UAV units to hunt Shahed drones.
The most experienced servicemen have already been selected to lead the new units. Each unit will receive drones and ammunition, a Starlink system, and other necessary equipment to detect and destroy the enemy’s drones. New anti-UAV systems have begun protecting energy facilities from Russian drones, the Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov said. He specified that six systems for combating enemy drones have been purchased. These include state-of-the-art defense technologies that are used to protect the US’ strategic facilities. A complex of radar systems and jammers helps to detect and block enemy UAV communication and then drones are launched to intercept them. Fortem DroneHunter F700 is one such autonomous drone with radar control and artificial intelligence that is currently in use. It flies at more than 100 km/h, intercepts, and destroys enemy drones. This year, the Ministry of Defense plans to spend UAH 20B to purchase UAVs, including equipment from 16 Ukrainian manufacturing companies.
