Ukraine is successfully replacing the Russian Federation in the European metal products market.
According to Eurostat data, Ukrainian mining companies shipped 5.11 million tons of iron ore to the EU market in January-April, which is 3.7% more than in the same period last year. The costs for European raw material importers increased by 5.8%, up to €614.83M. The main consumers of Ukrainian raw materials among EU countries were Slovakia with 1.83 million tons (+0.3%), Czech Republic – 986,400 tons (-35.4%), Poland – 1.44 million tons (+6.2%), and Germany – 317,000 tons (+480%).
At the same time, the EU reduced the import of products from Russia’s mining and metallurgical complex by 20.4%. to 1.52 million tons. Import costs decreased by 16.3%, to €801.15M. The main share of imports is semi-finished products, 79.3% of total import volume. Russia’s iron ore supply to the EU amounted to 9,360 tons (-96.7%).
