Ukraine is set to launch one of Eastern Europe’s largest energy storage systems.

DTEK and Fluence, a global leader in energy storage, have announced the early deployment of this project. The 200 MW system, spanning six locations, is in its final phase, including commissioning, testing, and initial battery discharge.

A total of 698 Fluence Gridstack modules have been installed across the six sites, with individual capacities ranging from 20 MW to 50 MW. Overall, the system will store 400 MWh of electricity, enough to power 600,000 Ukrainian homes for two hours.

Commercial operations and service delivery under the contract with Ukrenergo are scheduled to start in October 2025. Due to the war and limited access in Ukraine, this is the first project Fluence has fully commissioned remotely.

Meanwhile, Kharkiv will receive a $33.3 million grant from the World Bank to support the second phase of energy infrastructure development under the RePower program. Consequently, the city will add an additional 8.5 MW of local generation through the installation of cogeneration units in its most vulnerable areas.
