Ukraine is ready for EU trade restrictions on the condition that imports from Russia stop.

Ukraine is prepared to accept restrictions on trade with the EU to defuse a sharp political dispute with Poland. At the same time, Kyiv calls on the bloc to ban the import of Russian agricultural products, which still enter through Belarus and the Baltic states, said Ukraine’s trade representative, Taras Kachka.

“Perhaps, for the transition period, such a … managed approach to trade flows between Ukraine and the EU is what we all need. As for wheat, it is not Ukraine that creates problems for Polish farmers, but Russia,” said the trade representative.

According to him, Kyiv supports the new measures proposed by Brussels regarding the introduction of limits on the import of eggs, poultry meat, and sugar beginning in June, as well as allowing certain countries to close their markets for Ukrainian grain, except for transit to other countries.

Kyiv also recently agreed to redirect corn exports to Italy and Spain via the Black Sea instead of through neighboring countries in order to ease tensions.
