Ukraine is developing railroad infrastructure on the border with Slovakia and Poland.

The Slovak railway carrier ZSSK Cargo has started the modernization of the sorting park at at the Cierna nad Tysou station on 1520 mm gauge near the border with Ukraine. ZSSK Cargo noted that about 1,000 empty wagons have gathered at the station and asked Ukrainian Railways (UZ) to provide locomotives to remove this rolling stock.

The upgrade of the Cierna nad Tisou station will last until May 31. Also, in June it is planned to repair the tracks and contact network on the sections of the state border with Ukraine – Matevtsi and Matevtsi-Ganiska near Košice.

In its turn, UZ intends to complete the design for the construction of a track with a width of 1435 mm (Eurotrack) from the state border with Poland to Lviv (Mostyska-Sknyliv section) by the end of the current year to establish a connection with the European railway. Implementation of the project will allow organizing Eurorail connections from Lviv to Kraków, Prague, and Vienna.
