Ukraine is building only 20% of the declared 1 GW energy maneuvering capacity.

Energy experts have estimated that currently, Ukrainian cities are building at most 20% of the 1 GW of maneuvering energy capacity recently announced by Ukraine’s president. Currently, about 150 cogeneration plants are being constructed and installed. On average, the plants are about 1.5 MW each, although some are more powerful. There are also about 100 more repair projects of old and low-power plants (mainly 0.5-0.6 MW) in local boiler houses and Oblenergo.

Most projects in various cities began to be prepared at the end of 2023. Then USAID announced that it would provide Ukraine with about 100 maneuvering stations.

At the end of this spring, work in this area intensified significantly in Kyiv. There are 15 installations with a total capacity of 60.5 MW. Another 54 MW will be added thanks to the powerful installation presented to Kyiv by the UN. Kharkiv is second in terms of cogeneration capacity development rate. This capacity will amount to about 30 MW of maneuvering power.

In total, plans are in place to install an additional 200 MW of additional generation.
