Ukraine has started preparing its energy system for next winter; small generation facilities will be built.
In preparation for the next heating season, the Ukrainian government will focus on the fastest possible construction of small generation facilities for Kharkiv and other cities, with a transition in the medium term to the construction of large gas turbine installations, said Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov.
“We will try to urgently build small-capacity facilities for cities like Kharkiv before the next heating season together with our partners. After severe damage from bombings, this may be the primary method to prepare for this season for Kharkiv,” he said.
Ukraine plans to build large gas turbine installations with high power and efficiency in the future.
“We need several gigawatts of such capacities,” the minister added.
These energy projects are attractive for investment due to their high efficiency and low cost of electricity production.
He also said that Ukraine needs to redesign its thermal energy supply systems before the next heating season, specifically to modernize and decentralize the capacities of communal heat and energy enterprises.
