Ukraine has signed a security agreement with Japan, and 10 similar agreements are being prepared.
Ukraine and Japan signed a bilateral security agreement, under which Japan will provide Ukraine with $4.5B in 2024 and will continue to help throughout the ten-year term of the agreement. The document provides for the transfer of non-lethal equipment to Ukraine and establishes the further development of cooperation within the coalitions on information technologies and demining.
Japan will provide treatment for wounded Ukrainian soldiers, cooperate with Ukraine in intelligence and protection of classified information, strengthen protection for and reconstruction of critical infrastructure, strengthen cyber and information security, and ensure free navigation and security of sea lanes. The countries will study opportunities to develop Ukraine’s industrial base, particularly by involving the private sector, creating joint ventures, and conducting research.
The president of Ukraine noted that Ukraine now has bilateral security agreements with all G7 members. “A total of 17 agreements have already been signed, and we are preparing 10 more for signing,” he said.
