Ukraine has already completed 47% of this year’s missile program objectives: The domestically produced Sapsan ballistic missile is faster than the American ATACMS.

As of June 1, Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Klochko stated that Ukraine’s missile program for 2025 is 47% complete. Funding sources for the development of the weapon come from the state budget, contributions from enterprises interested in the missile sector, and financial support from international partners.

“I wouldn’t say that we have hundreds of such enterprises, but there are enough of them to ensure the implementation of the missile program,” he noted.

Klochko added that the domestic defense industry currently meets up to 33% of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s weaponry needs.

Experts highlight that during tests, the Sapsan ballistic missile reached a speed of Mach 5.2 (1,769 meters per second), significantly exceeding that of the American ATACMS missiles (Mach 3 or 1,500 meters per second) and approaching the speed of Russia’s Iskander-M (Mach 6, or 2,100 meters per second). In May, the Sapsan successfully completed combat testing and is now entering serial production.
