Ukraine exported record volumes during the war, and for the first time, a ship has been insured against war risks.
Domestic producers exported 12 million tons of products in January, two million tons less than in pre-war January 2022. The Ministry of Economy noted that 8.7 million tons were exported by sea.
As Minister Yuliya Svyridenko clarified, in January a ship insured against war risks under UNITY insurance has delivered exported goods for the first time. The insurance cost amounted to 0.75% of the vessel’s value, which is much cheaper than under BCGI coverage.
“We aim to reach the pre-war export volumes and a larger profit. This will become possible when the insurance market for sea transportation recovers and becomes more affordable,” Svyridenko noted.
UNITY insurance will reduce the cost of grain insurance and help grain traders save about ₴100-₴140 per ton. It will bring up to an additional ₴4B to agricultural producers.
