Ukraine believes that Trump’s secondary sanctions could finish the war by the year’s end.

Head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office Andriy Yermak stated that US President Donald Trump can end the Ukraine conflict by the end of 2025 if he enforces strict sanctions on buyers of Russian energy resources. These secondary sanctions could pressure China and India – the primary importers of Russian oil and gas – to demand that Moscow agree to peace in order to avoid a trade war with the US.
“Only economic problems can really put pressure on Putin. The new sanctions will create powerful pressure and deprive him of a significant part of his income, as well as cause pressure from countries that buy Russian oil”, Yermak said.
It’s noteworthy that India has already announced it will refuse to buy Russian oil if secondary sanctions are implemented. According to A.S. Sahni, head of Indian Oil Corp, if Russian supplies cease, the company will revert to its pre-war procurement model, when Russia’s share in total imports was under 2% (now it’s about 35%).
US Senator Lindsey Graham, author of the bill that would impose “devastating sanctions” on buyers of Russian energy, advised Putin to seriously consider Trump’s call to end the war within 50 days; otherwise, Graham warned, Putin risks following Iran’s fate, which was defeated by Israeli and US forces.
