Ukraine and Hungary will begin discussions to unblock the negotiation process for Ukraine’s EU accession.

Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna considers comments made concerning the potential for a decision on Moldova’s EU accession negotiations, made during her visit to Hungary, to be unconstructive. She went to Budapest specifically to discuss the rights of national minorities. The minister stated that on May 1 she plans to speak by phone with European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Marta Kos to raise the issue.
Stefanishyna also mentioned that Ukraine and Hungary have agreed to start regular consultations on May 12 to address all of Budapest’s concerns and facilitate Ukraine’s EU accession negotiations. Both sides have formed teams that will engage in a permanent dialogue format to resolve the issues related to Hungary’s 11 points of concern. Ukraine has already submitted its proposals for addressing these issues and is now awaiting a response from the Hungarian side.
Meanwhile, the official screening of Ukrainian legislation’s alignment with EU norms under the Entrepreneurship and Industrial Policy section has been successfully completed in Brussels.
