Turkey needs a grain agreement for its interests, but the corridor can work without Russia.
According to the Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey, “Turkey primarily defends its interests, as it is also interested in grain, greater stability in the Black Sea region, and the realization of its economic interests“.
He also added that Turkey has considerable leverage from a geopolitical point of view due to various interdependencies with Russia in economic, energy, logistics, tourism, geopolitical, and other dimensions. As a result, the grain corridor could function without concessions to the aggressor country, Bodnar stressed.
It should be noted that in Sochi, the presidents of Turkey and Russia did not agree on renewing the grain agreement. However, this was only the first careful screening of the parties’ proposals, after which a new agreement may follow.
