Trump will support arms sales to Ukraine if he considers it a “good deal” for the US.

Former US special representative for Ukraine negotiations, Kurt Volker, believes that US President Trump may agree to supply weapons to Kyiv if it appears to be a good deal for the US.

“For Trump, the main thing is a good deal. If he sees a benefit in this, he will support the sale of weapons. However, he will not want to spend budget funds on helping Ukraine,” he noted.

According to Volker, Trump is primarily a businessperson, and so supporting the US defense sector through arms exports is more appealing to him than providing free military aid. The diplomat believes that a legislative decision by Congress and the Senate allowing Ukraine to obtain loans to purchase weapons could resolve this issue. In this scenario, American taxpayers’ money would not be used.

“This can be linked to the mineral resources agreement. We could say that Ukraine pays for the supplies, and the money remains in the American economy. If everything looks like an honest commercial deal, Trump will agree,” Volker opined.
