Trump will permit Europe to purchase American weapons for Ukraine and seeks to understand the role Europe can play in supporting Ukraine.

US President Donald Trump has stated that he is prepared to allow European countries to acquire American weapons for transfer to Ukraine. This could enable Kyiv to continue utilizing American weapons, even if the US reduces its own supply of weapons. It remains unclear whether this option will be realized.
On the one hand, Trump aims for a swift resolution to the war; on the other, Washington anticipates that Europe will establish a robust security system.
Consequently, the US has approached European governments to inquire about potential security guarantees that Ukraine could be offered and what assistance would be required from the US in exchange. Specifically, these questions have centered on the willingness of European governments to deploy troops in Ukraine to maintain a negotiated peace, Europe’s strengthening of Ukraine’s defensive capabilities, the implementation of additional Russian sanctions, responses by the US and Ukraine’s other allies in the event of a Russian attack on peacekeepers, and the need for US support.
