Trump to rewrite Ukraine minerals deal, and pressures Zelenskyy to sign it.

The Trump administration may push for a “simplified deal” with Ukraine on its mineral reserves to hasten the peace process and then later negotiate more detailed terms.
Last week, President Zelenskyy rejected a deal that would have given the US 50% of Ukraine’s critical minerals over the lack of strong security guarantees provided in exchange. But Trump wants a deal with Ukraine before providing major US military support or moving forward with an attempt to mediate formal peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.
Special Envoy Keith Kellogg is in Kyiv to discuss, among other things, the parameters of the revised pact and what Ukraine will need in exchange before agreeing to sign. The US has no plans to abandon the deal, as it is important for Trump to publicly make it clear to the American people that the US is being compensated for the money it has spent on Ukrainian aid.
Trump blamed Ukraine for the agreement’s breakdown and said: “I’m gonna resurrect it or things are going to not make him too happy.” Trump’s national security adviser Mike Waltz said that Kyiv needs to “tone down” its statements and sign the agreement.
