Trump officially becomes US president: He promises to end all wars and states that Putin is destroying Russia, but does not mention Ukraine.
Donald Trump was sworn in, officially becoming the 47th president of the United States. After taking office, he said that he would focus on ending all wars in the world and building “the strongest military we have ever seen.”
Trump continued, “Our success will be not only in the battles that we win but also in the wars that we manage to stop. It will also be important not to get involved in wars”.
After his inauguration inside the US Capitol’s rotunda, Trump also said that Putin is “destroying” Russia by refusing to conclude an agreement to end its war against Ukraine. Trump confirmed that he has plans to meet with the Russian dictator “quite soon” and that he desires to achieve an end to the Russian-Ukrainian war “as soon as possible.”
However, during his inaugural address, the US president did not mention the war against Ukraine. CNN explained this with a statement that after officially taking office, Trump no longer wants to make public comments about his position and the “schedule” for ending the war. He also apparently realized how difficult it will be to accomplish it.
