Trump might guarantee Ukraine’s security through US peacekeepers under certain conditions.

According to Bloomberg, the Trump administration is ready to deploy US troops in Ukraine as part of a post-ceasefire peacekeeping mission, but only under certain conditions. In exchange for the deployment of US troops in Ukraine, Trump expects Europe to shoulder most of the responsibilities for ensuring compliance with the terms of a potential agreement. This is consistent with Trump’s belief that the war in Ukraine is a European affair.

In addition, the Trump team has made it clear that it will not directly assist in rebuilding Ukraine. The private sector is believed to be involved, but discussions are still ongoing.

Experts believe about 150,000 military personnel are needed to effectively guarantee Ukraine’s security. It will also be difficult to provide sufficient air defense and strategic support without US support.

“There are only two real guarantees for the country: NATO or nuclear weapons. Everything else is just security support,” analysts note.

A similar opinion was expressed in Davos by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, calling Ukraine’s membership in NATO “the best guarantee of security.”
