Trump has proposed a “peace plan” that includes transferring Crimea to Russia.

According to the WSJ and Bloomberg, the plan entails a ceasefire along the current front line (freezing the war), preventing Ukraine’s accession to NATO, and formally recognizing Crimea as Russian. Another proposed component is to deem the area surrounding the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP as neutral and place it under US control.
Additionally, the plan suggests easing sanctions against Russia and restoring its sovereign assets. However, it does not acknowledge Russia’s legal claim to the four regions it currently occupies (though there is no requirement for troop withdrawal from these areas). The US also does not propose restricting the size of the Ukrainian military and remains open to providing Western military support or deploying European troops.
The US aims to achieve a complete ceasefire within a few weeks and awaits Ukraine’s response during a meeting of officials in London later this week. If the positions of the US, Europe, and Ukraine align, the proposal may be forwarded to Moscow. The plan does not provide for a final resolution to the war but is intended to serve as a stepping stone toward lasting peace.
Additionally, the US introduced a draft concept for a ceasefire-compliance monitoring mechanism in Ukraine, if an agreement is reached with Russia.
