Trump has extended the previously imposed US restrictions on Russia while Kyiv prepares new shadow fleet sanctions.

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order extending sanctions against the Russian Federation, which were initially imposed in April 2021 by former US President Biden, due to the Russian government’s malicious foreign activities. These sanctions were expanded in March 2022 following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
On April 15 2021, Biden issued an executive order declaring a national emergency that allows for sanctions against individuals and entities posing a threat to the US’ national security, foreign policy, and economy stemming from the harmful foreign activities of the Russian government. On March 8 2022, the scope of this national emergency was broadened.
“I am extending the national emergency for another year,” states the executive order that Trump recently signed.
Concurrently, President Zelenskyy announced the preparation of Ukrainian sanction packages targeting Russia and those assisting it in the war. These measures include targeting the shadow tanker fleet, propagandists, and other individuals supporting Russian aggression.
