Training of Ukrainian pilots on the F-16 will start at the end of summer, and the planes will arrive in 2024.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, announced that during a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, Rutte agreed to start training Ukrainian pilots on Western-style fighter jets in August.
As a result of the NATO summit in Vilnius, Ukraine and 11 partner states signed a memorandum on training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 aircraft. The training coalition includes Belgium, Denmark, Canada, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Great Britain, and Sweden. Training is provided for both pilots, technicians, and support staff. Poland promised to provide infrastructure for training Ukrainians.
According to Minister Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine will receive F-16 fighters in the first quarter of 2024. He explained that transferring combat aircraft to Ukraine is very difficult from a technical standpoint.
