This year, the defense-industrial complex and mechanical engineering goods expect increased production output.
Although the Ukrainian foundry industry has lost approximately 50% of its capacity since the beginning of the war, and the existing enterprises are operating at 30-50% capacity, the industry continues to operate despite all the challenges of the war.
The main problems in the foundry industry during the war include a shortage of electricity and personnel, along with logistics difficulties. Despite this, experts expect an increase in production by the end of 2024. In 2023, foundry product production was approximately 300,000 tons, and this year, it is planned to release up to 400,000 tons of castings. However, much depends on the energy supply in autumn and winter. Currently, there are two main groups of casting consumers. The first, military equipment, is highest in volume and of key importance.
Positive expectations are based on the growth in demand for defense products. The second group is comprised of the numerous sub-branches of mechanical engineering (agricultural machinery, wagons, power equipment), infrastructure construction, and energy, among others.
