This week, the US Senate will consider a bill to aid to Ukraine.
The leader of the Democratic majority in the US Senate, Chuck Schumer, announced that the vote on the budget request from the Biden administration, which includes $60B in spending items related to support for Ukraine, will take place this week. The bill also provides aid to Israel and Taiwan.
The Senate was supposed to adjourn on Friday (December 15) for the Christmas break, but Democrats, Republicans, and the Biden administration need more time to negotiate. Work will continue until December 21. Republican senators demand a significant strengthening of security along the border with Mexico in exchange for support of, or at least not the obstruction of, aid to Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the EU is also delaying financial assistance to Ukraine. Therefore, the Ukrainian parliament predicts a problematic period in the first quarter of 2024 if funding from international partners does not arrive in a timely fashion.
