The White House has requested $61.4B from Congress for Ukraine, but monthly aid will be reduced.
The White House has released a request to the US Congress to fund a $106B aid package to provide support for Ukraine, Israel, and other urgent needs.
The section on support to Ukraine notes that it will be directed to supply additional weapons and equipment. These funds would also provide for significant investment in the defense and industrial base, the transportation of US personnel and equipment, and the strengthening of the US troop presence in Europe.
The package will also allocate assistance for direct budget support, facilitating investment in critical infrastructure, support for law enforcement, and assistance in demining. Expenses associated with Ukrainian refugees in the US under the U4U program are also expected.
At the same time, the US wants to reduce the amount of direct budget support to Ukraine from $1.1B to $825M per month. In his speech, US President Joe Biden called on Congress to show unity regarding aid to Ukraine.
