The West is preparing Ukraine for a breakthrough in the war in 2024.
Western countries are accumulating reserves to continue their military support of Ukraine in order to allow Ukraine’s Armed Forces to achieve a breakthrough in the summer of 2024. This will strengthen Kyiv’s position in any negotiations with Moscow, writes the WSJ.
According to several sources, Ukraine’s current counteroffensive has not led to the breakthrough that Ukrainian politicians and their supporters desire. However, the Russian Federation has not demonstrated success over the past 12 months and is preparing for a long war.
Last week, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Canada’s Defense Minister Bill Blair discussed support for Ukraine. Blair also discussed this issue with his German colleague Boris Pistorius.
Meanwhile, Germany announced a new aid package for Ukraine. It included four Bandvagn 206 tracked all-terrain vehicles, four border guard vehicles, 82 satellite communication terminals, and 50 drone detection systems.
A €1B winter package of assistance is also being prepared, including the Patriot and IRIS-T missile defense systems. Also, the US has promised Ukraine several batches of Switchblade 600 kamikaze drones.
