The West has doubled the supply of weapons to Ukraine on the eve of a possible counteroffensive.

Since December 9, 2022, the Pentagon has sent more than $8B in military aid to Ukraine. According to The Economist, this is 40% of all promised weapons to Ukraine since the start of a full-scale war. Moreover, the American package included armored bridge-builders, vital to any offensive in the south or east. In addition, the arms supply agreed upon in Germany in January is two-thirds of the total amount sent in 2022 to Ukraine. But Western officials disagree on whether that will be enough to push Russia out of the roughly 18% of Ukrainian territory it controls. In addition, ammunition remains a significant problem, as the Western allies are in no rush to ramp up production. And Ukraine’s lack of an air force could become an even more severe problem if Russian warplanes are willing to take more significant risks during any Ukrainian offensive.
