The US is preparing to restart Nord Stream 2, and international investors are acquiring assets related to Russia.

The US is formulating a project to reactivate the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2. According to the FT, this initiative is associated with Matthias Warnig, a close Putin ally, who led Nord Stream 2’s main company until 2023. The plan involves collaboration with the Trump team through American businessmen. It is noted that several representatives from the Trump administration view the initiative as part of efforts to restore relations with Moscow and also as leverage in peace negotiations regarding Ukraine. One investor consortium, led by the US, has already crafted a plan for a deal with Gazprom.

The EU is concerned about these discussions and believes that this will grant the US unprecedented control over European energy supplies. However, this plan would necessitate the US lifting its Russian sanctions, agreeing to resume sales, and permitting Germany to supply gas to potential buyers across Europe. Nonetheless, numerous German companies are eager to see Russian gas supplies to Europe resume.

Meanwhile, amid negotiations between Russia and the US, international investors are purchasing various Russian-related assets.
