The US is preparing for a Trump meeting with Putin in Alaska, and considering the possibility of a three-way meeting with Zelenskyy.

US President Donald Trump announced he will meet with Vladimir Putin this week, on Friday. Reports indicate that the Trump administration is working to organize trilateral talks with the leaders of Ukraine and Russia. However, Trump stated, Putin does not need to agree to a meeting with President Zelenskyy in order for him to negotiate with Putin.
The White House is considering inviting Zelenskyy to Alaska, though it’s unclear whether he will meet with Putin in a bilateral or trilateral format. Meanwhile, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz should meet with Putin before or immediately after the US-Russia summit to join the negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. Otherwise, Orban warned, the potential peace deal could be finalized virtually without European participation.
As a result of the latest developments, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas will convene the EU foreign ministers to discuss the next steps regarding the upcoming US-Russia summit. “Any agreement between the US and Russia must include Ukraine and the EU, since this is a matter of security for Ukraine and all of Europe”, she emphasized.
