The US House passed $61B financial aid bill for Ukraine the possibility for confiscation of Russian assets.
The bill provides for an appropriation of $60.8B, where defense expenditures are expected to be $49.9B. US President Joe Biden promised to sign the aid bill as soon as it is approved by both Houses of Congress. On Saturday, April 20, 311 members of the lower house of the US Congress voted for the relevant decision.
According to US officials, the arms deliveries will begin a week after the aid package becomes law. The package will probably include ammunition for both air defense systems and artillery.
In addition, the House of Representatives approved a bill on the possibility of confiscating the Russian Federation’s sovereign assets in favor of Ukraine and expanding sanctions against the aggressor country. In particular, the US president will be authorized to apply the confiscation procedure to sovereign assets with their subsequent transfer to special funds for further transfer to Ukraine.
President Zelenskyy thanked Mike Johnson and the American people for the crucial and long-awaited support.
