The US has resumed arms supplies to Ukraine after a brief pause.
US arms supplies to Ukraine were temporarily suspended for the past few days but resumed over the weekend as President Trump’s administration debated its policy toward Kyiv. Two people familiar with the matter indicated that the supplies were resumed after the White House pivoted away from its initial intention to halt Kyiv’s aid. However, disagreements remain within the Trump administration regarding the level of support that should be given to Ukraine, particularly concerning weapons from US warehouses, one source noted.
In his final months in office, President Biden approved over $1B in arms for Ukraine each month. US aid to Ukraine has predominantly been provided through the Presidential Drawdown Authority, which permits the transfer of weapons from US stocks without Congressional approval.
No new military aid packages have been announced since Trump took office but supplies approved by Biden have continued to arrive and will last for several months. The brief delivery suspension was the first public indication of internal conflict within the Trump administration regarding Ukrainian support.
