The US has paused the development of its “peace plan” for Ukraine, aiming to involve the EU and discuss details with Zelenskyy.

Donald Trump’s administration seeks to ensure Europe has a seat at the negotiating table. Trump’s specialenvoy, Keith Kellogg, explicitly stated that before finalizing the “peace plan,” he would consult with the US’ NATO allies to ensure that they won’t feel “squeezed out” of the negotiations.

During discussions with European diplomats, Kellogg will take their perspectives into account regarding the structure of any peace agreement and the contributions that other governments can make to this process. Moreover, the US special envoy is expected to visit Kyiv soon, reportedly on February 20, just prior to the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

This week, Ukrainian authorities are also preparing for a visit to Kyiv by senior officials from the Trump team. Following this, President Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet with US Vice President JD Vance at the Munich Security Conference, where discussions between both leaders’ teams are planned.

Earlier, Trump said that “tremendous progress” has been made over the past week on the issue of a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia.
