The US has declined to provide an additional $300M in aid to Ukraine.

The US House Appropriations Committee approved the defense budget for the 2026 fiscal year, maintaining defense spending at 2025’s level and refusing to allocate an additional $300M for aid to Ukraine. Consequently, US defense spending in 2026 will total $832B. However, spending could potentially rise to $1T due to unspent funds for other purposes.
Specifically, the US might allocate $13B next year for missile defense and space programs related to the Golden Dome missile shield, $8.5B for 69 F-35 fighters, and $36.9B for shipbuilding, particularly for two Arleigh Burke-class destroyers that were not included in the Pentagon’s plans.
However, members of congress did not support an amendment to the defense budget bill that would have increased aid to Ukraine by $300M; it was rejected in a vote. House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole warned before the vote that increasing funding for Ukraine could jeopardize the defense budget since some Republicans would oppose the amendment.
