The US approves the emergency sale of Hawk air defense systems equipment to Ukraine for $138M.

On April 9, the US State Department authorized the emergency sale of $138M worth of military products to Ukraine to maintain and repair Hawk air defense systems to help defend against attacks by Russian drones and cruise missiles.

The price includes engineering, retrofitting and overhaul supplies, tool kits, and spare parts. It plans to use $138 million of the $300 million in foreign military funding that Congress passed as part of the annual defense spending bill recently signed into law by President Joe Biden.

It allows the US to quickly transfer defense goods and services from stockpiles without congressional approval in response to emergency situations. The United States announced the move, saying Ukraine urgently needed technical support to keep its missile system operational.

The US began supplying Ukraine with the Hawk in 2022 to upgrade the Stinger anti-aircraft missile systems.
