The US announced a $177B aid package for Ukraine, but only some funds and weapons have arrived.
President Zelenskyy stated during a meeting of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities that the US has allocated $177B to support Ukraine, but not all the money and aid deliveries have arrived. Half of these funds came in the form of weapons produced at American factories. However, Ukraine still needs an additional 12-15 Patriot air defense systems and other weapon systems to close the Ukrainian sky to Russian attack. Zelenskyy noted that the US is Ukraine’s main donor and hopes this will continue under Donald Trump’s presidency.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller gave his assurance that the military aid currently allocated to Ukraine by the Biden administration should last for all of 2025.
Meanwhile, the NYT writes that the Biden Administration may not have time to use all of the $5.6B in military aid allocated by Congress before Trump’s inauguration. It will probably be possible to use the entire $1.2B within the framework of the Security Assistance Initiative, which allows Kyiv to purchase goods from the defense industry.
