The US and NATO will provide Ukraine with $10B in American weapons through a new financing mechanism.

According to Reuters, the US and NATO are developing a new way to supply weapons to Ukraine, using funds from alliance countries to pay for the purchase or transfer of American weapons. The new supply mechanism will coordinate the purchase and delivery of items from the Priority Ukraine Requirements List. The restart of transatlantic cooperation on providing Ukraine with weapons occurs amid US President Donald Trump’s frustration with Putin and Russia’s continued bombing of Ukrainian cities. The NATO allies plan to deliver $10B worth of weapons to Ukraine via this new mechanism.
It is expected that Kyiv will prioritize the American weapons it requires in $500M packages, after which European NATO members will decide among themselves who will supply them (from their own stocks) or pay for their purchase from the US. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will oversee the process.
This initiative is “a voluntary effort coordinated by NATO, in which all allies are invited to participate”. It is noted that the new mechanism will enable countries willing to donate funds to Ukraine’s defense to effectively bypass the lengthy procedures for purchasing US weapons and replenish their own stocks.
