The Ukrainian government will implement one of the IMF’s structural beacons.
The Cabinet of Ministers approved a draft law which will allow the liquidation of the Gas Pipelines of Ukraine (GPU) company in an expedited manner. It will be merged with the Operator of the GTS of Ukraine (OGTSU).
As a reminder, GPU was created at the end of 2016 to fulfill Ukraine’s obligations under the Third Energy Package, which provided for the separation of natural gas transportation activities from its supply and extraction.
It should be noted that the reform of the GTS Operator’s corporate management is one of Ukraine’s obligations within the framework of the IMF program. It is also stipulated by the memorandum with the EU dated January 16, 2023. By July, the corporate rights of OGTSU, which belong to GPU, should be transferred to the Ministry of Energy. By the end of October, the OGTSU supervisory board will be elected and appointed.
