The UK will help Ukraine demine energy facilities and provide $245M to purchase nuclear fuel.
The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and the British non-governmental organization The Mines Advisory Group (MAG) agreed to cooperate on the demining of energy facilities and their adjacent territories.
A signed memorandum provides for cooperation in creating conditions for the safe reconstruction of critical Ukrainian energy infrastructure. MAG will also provide specialized technical assistance and consultations.
Meanwhile, the British government will guarantee Ukraine a £192M ($245M) export financing deal to buy nuclear fuel from several producers, including British companies such as Urenco.
During his visit to Kyiv, British Energy Minister Grant Shapps emphasized that this guarantee will help Ukraine avoid nuclear fuel supplies from the Russian Federation in the future. “The allocated funds will ensure that it comes from much more reliable sources,” Shapps said.
