The Trump administration may soon try to convene negotiations on Ukraine.
According to The Telegraph, the next US presidential administration may try to convene negotiations on Ukraine in the near future. When exactly will depend on the willingness of Putin and President Zelenskyy to hold talks, as well as on the agenda and hosting country for the negotiations. It may also depend on Russia, particularly whether it refrains from outrageous actions that could make such talks impossible given international opinion.
The publication writes that the United States will play a central role in the negotiations, regardless of whether US President-elect Trump proposes to hold them, and the likely next Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, “would probably be the obvious chairman.” At the same time, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, could also chair the negotiations.
However, many experts express skepticism regarding Trump’s ability to end the war in Ukraine quickly, and also emphasize that he “has not provided any additional details about what the world can expect from his promised peace initiative.”
