The supply of ammunition is being hampered by the dispute between Poland and France.
In particular, the ambassadors of France and Poland could not resolve a dispute over who should receive joint EU contracts to purchase ammunition for Ukraine, reported Politico.
Although EU leaders recently approved a plan to purchase and supply ammunition to Ukraine jointly, the countries have been at odds over how to spend the €1B allocated for joint contracts. The main point of contention is how much money to allocate solely for EU producers and whether to include companies in countries such as the US and UK.
France has been pushing to keep the money within the bloc, angering some of its EU allies. Sweden, which currently holds the EU presidency, proposed a compromise document. It limits future contracts to “economic operators established in the Union and Norway”.
