The Pentagon warns Congress of the danger of failing to agree on funding for Ukraine by December 30.

The US Department of Defense is spending its last $1.07B on purchasing new weapons and equipment to replace those removed from stockpiles and sent to Ukraine. On December 30, this account will be empty.

“After that, the department will exhaust funding available for security assistance to Ukraine,” Pentagon Comptroller Michael McCord said in a letter to the House and Senate.

Bloomberg notes that this letter will pressure Congress to break the deadlock over the $60B that President Joe Biden requested for Ukraine.

On December 12, the Biden administration announced that it was sending a $200M package to Ukraine, which includes artillery shells, small arms ammunition, and other weapons. After that, the Pentagon can send one additional aid package to Ukraine.

It is noted that the letter implores Congress to agree on financing military aid to Ukraine.
