The Ministry of Finance is seeking about ₴50B in additional domestic resources to finance defense expenditures.
More than ₴50B ($1.25B) must be found before the end of the year to pay the newly introduced, additional bonuses for military personnel and police officers in the amount of ₴70,000 for service on the front lines. The surcharge can be financed by tax revenues or OVDP.
In addition, authorities are discussing the possibility of increasing defense spending in 2024 by more than ₴400B ($10B) to purchase military equipment and ammunition.
According to ePravda.com, the Ministry of Finance is starting to prepare relevant changes to the state budget, but the sources of financing for these additional expenses have not been determined. Funds from international partners are not used for defense, so the financing for the ₴500B in new expenditures must come exclusively through internal resources (taxes, OVDP, etc.).
Also, in the case of successful Eurobond debt restructuring negotiations, the government can save more than ₴200B on repayment of these securities and their interest payments.
