The Ministry of Energy is rushing to restore energy production capacity. 

The Ukrainian campaign to repair power units in 2024 will be larger than last year, Minister of Energy German Galushchenko said.

“Last year, we restored 3.3 GW of destroyed generation. This year, the number will be even higher,” he said.

According to him, the repair campaign is working around the clock and has already delivered results, but specific information about these results cannot be revealed for security reasons.

Ukraine, along with its partners, is primarily working in the following directions: infrastructure repair and restoration, development of distributed generation, provision of backup power generators, and energy infrastructure protection.

According to the minister, the average energy deficit is currently about three GW. The minister added that if we sum up all the current needs, not limited to the heating season, we are talking about a volume of more than six GW.

However, the power system’s situation has recently improved as a result of lower consumption brought about by more moderate temperatures. Also, sunny weather contributes to increased electricity production at solar power plants. However, most of Ukraine’s consumption is provided for through nuclear energy.
