The head of the IMF came to Kyiv to discuss a $15B loan program.
On February 20, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, visited Ukraine. During a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, she said that she follows the events in Ukraine and deeply appreciates the activities of the state and its institutions that continue to operate despite the full-scale Russian invasion. The IMF Director also met separately with Prime Minister Denys Shmygal, Minister of Economy Yulia Svyridenko, and Minister of Finance Serhiy Marchenko. The parties discussed the possibility of launching a new $15B multi-year major program consisting of immediate financial support and support for reforms that will promote recovery. The Ministry of Finance estimates a need for an additional $10B in external financing to cover the budget deficit for 2023.
