The grain corridor: The EU seeks to liberate the Black Sea, the UN considers a range of ideas, and Lithuania and Croatia offer help.

“It is necessary to unblock the Black Sea, to prevent a food crisis in the world’s most vulnerable countries, and to continue exporting Ukrainian products,” said President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. She emphasized that the EU is working to ensure food security “by all available means”, but the Black Sea must be freed in order to fully restore exports.

The Prime Minister of Ireland stated that the EU seeks to expand land routes for the export of Ukrainian grain, “corridors of solidarity”, as well as road and rail transport through Ukraine’s neighbors.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that several ideas are currently being considered that can solve the problem of exporting not only Ukrainian but also Russian products to world markets.

Meanwhile, Croatia offered its railway network and ports in the Adriatic Sea for Ukrainian agricultural products.

Also, the GM of the Lithuanian port Klaipėda said that the port’s capacity allows the transshipment of 10 million tons of Ukrainian grain. Still, it is difficult to transport cargo to the Baltic coast.
