The frozen assets belonging to the Russian Federation will cover 80% of Ukraine’s reconstruction needs.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine will definitely receive money for post-war reconstruction from frozen Russian Federation assets. The minister hopes these funds will arrive before the end of the war. However, according to him, there are questions about volumes.

“There are three elements: the frozen assets, their income, and the taxes on those incomes. The $300B of frozen assets are enough to cover more than 80% of our recovery needs,” said the foreign minister.

The US proposes that G7 working groups consider options for confiscating this money and agree on a plan by February 24.

In addition, Ukraine will demand compensation through international courts for the damage the Russian Federation has caused to the Ukrainian environment. The amount is estimated to be more than €56B. In the massive attacks on December 29 and January 2 alone, the damage from air pollution created in Ukraine amounts to $400,000. More than 5,000 tons of CO2 were released into the air.
