The first biomethane plant in Ukraine has been connected to the gas network.
The Regional Gas Company (RGK) has added Ukraine’s first biomethane plant to its network. The enterprise will produce about three million cubic meters of gas annually, supplying nearly 1,500 customers.
The RGK noted that biomethane is no different from natural gas and can be immediately utilized by households and industry. In the first stage, gas will enter the network in the autumn-winter period. After the construction of the second stage and the ringing of the networks, the supply will become year-round.
The biomethane plant of the Hals-Agro company in the Chernihiv region was built in 2018 to produce biogas, which was then used to generate electricity. In 2021, the enterprise was equipped with a biomethane production module. At the beginning of 2023, the biomethane module was installed and connected to the Chernihivgaz network. In 2022, RGK and the European biomethane STX market trader concluded a memorandum to purchase biomethane from Ukraine.
