The EU’s refusal to buy Russian gas will deprive the aggressor of $6.5B annually.

The European Union’s willingness to abandon Russian gas and the cessation of its supply to the EU benefit Ukraine, as it deprives the aggressor country of annual budget revenues of $6.5B, noted oil and gas market expert Mykhailo Krutykhin.

According to him, Ukraine will lose only $230M a year from discontinuing gas transit, which is significantly less than the profit Russia will be deprived of. The EU has decided that all bloc countries will completely abandon Russian pipeline gas by 2027; all EU members can do without Russian gas this winter.

“The few countries that still receive energy supplies are Hungary, through the Turkish Stream, and Austria and Slovakia – through Ukraine. If the supply of Russian gas via these pipeline routes is disrupted, they can receive the gas from European trading platforms. Yes, it will be somewhat more expensive, but this is the fault of the leadership of these countries, which did not prepare for the disconnection from Russian gas,” Krutykhin noted.
