The EU suggests avoiding a trade war with the US by reducing dependence on Russian gas.

The EU wants to increase imports of liquefied natural gas from the US to reduce dependence on Russian gas and convince the next US president, Donald Trump, not to impose tariffs on European goods. EU officials insist that increased LNG imports from the US will help ease Trump’s concerns about the trade deficit.

“We look forward to working with the new Trump administration to cement America’s role as a leading supplier of clean liquefied natural gas,” said Venture Global (a leading US LNG producer).

It is noted that American industry is ready to increase exports to the EU. In the first days of his presidency, it is expected that Trump will lift the moratorium on the issuance of permits for LNG projects, which Biden introduced during the analysis of the costs and benefits of the sector’s growth. The European Commission believes American LNG can become a key factor in trade negotiations between Washington and Brussels.
