The EU is negotiating with Hungary to unblock aid to Ukraine.

As Reuters writes, the EU and Hungary expect to agree on financial assistance for Kyiv by the end of November. Hungary’s financing from EU funds can be restored by the end of November, a representative from Budapest said. A previously agreed upon, multibillion euro bailout of the Hungarian economy had been suspended following the Hungarian government’s retreat from the standards of democracy.

As EU officials have stated, among the conditions for restoring funding from the EU is Hungary’s agreement to expand aid to Ukraine and enable the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU.

European officials said that the laws adopted by Hungary to strengthen the independence of its judicial system brought the agreement on unfreezing part of €22B in economic development aid to the country closer and enabled negotiations to continue.
