The EU is considering Ukraine’s automatic accession to NATO in the event that Russia violates a future ceasefire.

This proposal is expected to receive support from several European leaders and American senators. Finnish President Alexander Stubb has already positively assessed this proposal.

It should be noted that US Senator Lindsey Graham expressed the same idea at the Munich Security Conference. According to him, in this case Ukraine’s defense would be handled by other members of the Alliance. Moreover, the Deputy Representative of the US President in Ukraine, John Coale, contradicted statements made by Trump and Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth, stating that Washington does not rule out Ukraine’s NATO membership or a return to the 1991 borders through diplomatic channels.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has previously stated that Ukraine was never promised NATO membership as part of a peace agreement.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said earlier that the United States and President Trump are not ready to talk about Ukraine’s membership in NATO because they consider it an escalation of the conflict with Russia.
